Exago, in collaboration with several clients, has developed an event-driven, external interface for eWebReports, their innovative adhoc reporting software. The new external interface allows tighter integration with clients' applications.
"In focusing eWebReports as the embedded and ad hoc reporting solution for application software companies, we've found that nothing is more effective than listening to and collaborating with our clients," according to Mike Brody, CEO of Exago.
The genesis of the external interface began with a client requirement to be able to pass up-to-date email addresses to eWebReports for distribution lists at the time a scheduled report was ready for execution. At the point of execution eWebReports notifies the host application, which in turn passes back to eWebReports the up-to-date email addresses.
The external interface functionality was extended when several clients requested, through our Support Center, the ability to maintain an audit trail of reports executed by Exago that had to be combined with their internal audit trails. Again, at the time of execution of a report, the host application is notified, and the required audit information (e.g. name of report, client ID, user ID) is passed.
A recent addition was the 'plug-in UI' window. This allows clients creating a scheduled report to indicate to eWebReports to display a window provided by the host application, instead of displaying the usual data entry screen for entering email addresses and/or distribution lists. "We believe this concept can be extended throughout eWebReports, allowing our clients to display their current screen formats where they feel it is appropriate.
"We're really excited about the potential uses our clients will come up with in the future for the external interface. The development effort has really reinforced our belief that our clients are an incredible resource," said Stew Meyers, Exago's Chief Architect. "They've provided an enormous amount of input to both the technical and functional aspects of our development roadmap."
